Are framed in the mandates of the United Nations, in the declaration of
Rio, the Agenda 21, the Action Plan and the Political Declaration of
Johannesburg 2002.
The summit does not searches to remake the commitments that already have
been ratified, on the contrary the experiences and initiatives in favor of the
sustainable development that will be presented by youth in this Summit, will be
a juvenile contribution to the revision and implementation of the commitments of
Rio and Johannesburg.
Keeping in mind
that all thematic related with youth and sustainable development are important
for the summit, it was determined that the 39 chapters of the Agenda 21 will be
taken into account in the "Compilation of Youth Projects and Experiences on
Environment and Sustainable Development" (global preparatory process) and
that for the development of the summit, 10 thematic axes will be approached.
Five of those thematic axes were considered high-priority by the United
Nations for the Johannesburg Summit and the other five ones have been proposed
along this process by youth. The thematic axes are: Biodiversity, agriculture,
energy, water, habitat, education, voluntarism, organization and participation,
information and communication and employment.
The First World Youth Summit of Cartagena is a
meeting that will be focused on the exchange of experiences, knowledge, best
practices and learned lessons.
